It was the girl from college. The one he was with the night I found him in the back yard. They had an on again, off again relationship for years. She must have meant something to him if he kept taking her back. Or was it the other way around?

"Hi Madison and Temperance. Mama Vee, you did a beautiful job with the back yard. I see you got the whole family here this time. Last time it was a smaller crowd, right?"

I guess she didn't see the rest of us standing here. Probably not. She was too busy trying to find Percy. Her head turning in every direction for a glimpse of him. She was looking like a damn bobble head.

I look over at his mama, mad as hell. She was sitting here grinning from ear to ear. I don't know why. This chick ain't no prize. I mean, she was cute and all but what made her so special?

"That was about what? Five, six months ago now? Long enough for you to have locked my son down. What are you waiting on Estelle? I thought you told me you wanted him?"

What? I turn my head toward Estelle and her nasty smile. I didn't like the way she was looking at Red and Shelby. Like she was looking down on them or something. Which was more than the attention she gave me.

I must be invisible because I didn't even get acknowledged by this heffa. It was taking everything in me, to keep my mouth shut. She wasn't getting her hands on Percy. Now that I have, I plan on keeping him!

"Mama Vee, you know me. It's been how many years? Trust me when I say, I got your son on lock. Percy ain't going nowhere. He knows it don't get no better than this."

As I watch her walk away, I could see myself dragging her back. By her nice long weave. I don't know what she thinks is about to happen, but she needs to think again. Percy's relationship status has changed.

Not that it was any of their damn business. He was a grown ass man capable of making decisions on his own. He does not need the help of his mama to find happiness. Something he already has with me.

Shelby and Red move closer to me. For support, I'm sure. Quiet as it's kept, I got all the support I need. This quiet demeanor and polite smile are a complete front. I will get down if I need to.

"Mama, Percy is going to kill you. He doesn't want that girl. You already know this." Thank you, Madison! Percy don't want her because he wants me.

"You haven't been home in a while Madison. For a man that don't want her, he keeps going back to her. Hell, she got something he want. He ain't told her no yet. Watch."

I couldn't take another minute of his meddling mama. Not tonight. What I need to do, is get some fresh air. Step away from this situation before it got volatile.
